BABA CARE, s.r.o.
First, we consider it appropriate to explain why we chose this strange name when we founded the workplace in 2006. The main protagonist was the Prague gynecologist and obstetrician Alexandr Barták - those are the middle letters AB. His wife, a midwife Lenka, who has the same surname, was and is a more than valuable colleague to him, which is why BA is there twice, creating the word "BABA", a regional expressive term for a woman; it can also evoke the idea of a midwife.
I firmly believe that our patients will not be offended when I reveal that in the working slang of gynecological workplaces, the word "baba" serves as a technical term: it generally refers to a gynecological patient. We emphasize that regardless of her age, a colleague's message: "You have a midwife in the waiting room," can easily mean that a sixteen-year-old high school student is demanding treatment.
It also seems symbolic to us that - believe it or not - Baba is the name of a goddess from Sumerian-Akkadian mythology, the wife of the god Ninurta, who (herself the mother of seven daughters) was in charge of fertility! (see J. Black, A. Green: Gods, demons and symbols of ancient Mesopotamia. Prague 1999). In this context, it is interesting, by the way, that the god Baba (sometimes referred to as Babi) was in the Egyptian pantheon the god of male fertility and is usually depicted with the head of a baboon and a permanent erection... (The name of our facility has nothing to do with the "baba-yaga" phenomenon, even if one of our nurses - quite exceptionally - is not in a very good mood.)
So much for the baba.
As for CARE, well, we want to be worldly, and that cannot be done without English these days.
The name is intended to indicate that we are concerned with taking care of women. More precisely, our field is the so-called REPRODUCTIVE MEDICINE, i.e. everything that concerns human reproduction. Of this, women are the fundamental pillar. And since reproduction is probably the most basic attribute of life, we have the immodest impression that our field is also the most important among human activities, because...
...ALL PEOPLE, SOCRATES, HAVE IN THEIR BODY AND SOUL THE DRIVE TO PROCEED. IN PROCEEDING IS AN ACT OF GOD. AND IT IS EXACTLY THE ELEMENT OF IMMORTALITY IN A MORTAL FORM..."
(Platón, Hostina)
Profile of our facility
In our practice, like any female doctor's office, we deal with routine gynecology, including prevention and professional supervision of future mothers. Historically, Dr. Barták's domain was reproductive medicine, i.e. everything related to human reproduction: gynecological endocrinology, infertility treatment and care from conception to birth. Even today, a specialist from the IVF center and a certified specialist in prenatal ultrasound diagnostics consult and prescribe in our clinic; we own one of the best ultrasound machines that ever exists. In the treatment of infertility, we cooperate primarily with the FERTICARE clinical center.
In obstetrics and surgery, we have collaborated for many years with the gynecological and obstetrics department of the hospital in Brandýs, after its closure, the closest to us (both emotionally and geographically) is the Bulovka Faculty Hospital, with all its specialized centers and clinics.
In addition to reproductive medicine, like any female doctor's office, we also provide routine gynecology, including prevention.
People in the office

Bc. Lenka Bartáková, DiS has been working in the practice as a head nurse and operations manager throughout its existence. Her entrepreneurial initiative was and is crucial for the establishment and operation of the practice.
After high school, Lenka graduated from a higher medical school as a midwife. She worked for eleven years in the gynecological and obstetrics department in Prague's Bulovka, gave birth to her first two children (her own) and then spent a few years with her husband in North Africa. After returning to her homeland, she worked as a sales representative in the pharmaceutical industry and gave birth to two more children. In 2006, she returned to the profession and founded her own healthcare facility with her husband in their common area of interest - gynecology and obstetrics.
Šárka Šmídová has been providing daily nursing care and reception operations in our office since February 2023. Šárka graduated from the secondary school of nursing in Prague 4 in 1995 and from the higher vocational school for economic and business administration in 1997. She has spent most of her working life in the healthcare sector in Prague, including as a ward nurse and the last 6 years as a field nurse for home care. Her experience from this working era is admirable. Šárka is a mother of two children, she is very empathetic and proficient in IT technologies.
MUDr. Pavel Drbohlav, CSc. is an experienced gynecologist who specializes in and is oriented primarily in "reproductive medicine", most of his working life takes place in a major Prague IVF center.
Dr. Stanislav Martan works as the deputy chief of the gynecology and obstetrics department of the hospital in Nymburk and his domain is laparoscopic surgery and prenatal ultrasound diagnostics.
Karen Renee Zu, MD is a young board-certified gynecologist born in Ghana, fluent in Czech and English. Her main interests lie in ultrasound diagnostics, prenatal care, obstetrics, male potency, and lactation counseling.
Sabina Šašurová, MD is a young (soon to be certified) gynecologist, her main interests are in prenatal care, ultrasound diagnostics, and obstetrics.
MUC. Daniel Barták, as a 5th year student at the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, is already authorized and qualified as a practical nurse. He supplements part of his office hours with nursing and receptionist activities in our clinic. He plans to be an obstetrician and gynecologist like his father, but for now he enjoys football and boxing the most. As long as his studies do not suffer from this, our clinic will be happy to use his young charm and masculine strength, for which there is plenty of work here.
MUDr. Ivana Matoušková is a young but already certified gynecologist from the Gynecological and Obstetrics Clinic of the General Hospital in Apolinařská and her main interest is in prenatal care, ultrasound diagnostics and obstetrics.
Currently on Maternity Leave
MUDr. Veronika (Janečková) Reznerová works (and is preparing for early certification in the field) at the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of the Mladá Boleslav District Hospital. Her subspecialty is prenatal care, especially ultrasound diagnostics.

The first and leading physician in our clinic was MUDr Alexandr Barták.
Born on September 11, 1956 to Czech parents in Beijing*, he died on August 2, 2022.
He graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine of Charles University in Prague, where he graduated in 1982. He completed an internship at the gynecological department of the Ospedale Civico e Benefratelli hospital in Palermo, Sicily. There, he gained a positive relationship, especially with Italian cuisine.
He began his working career at the gynecological and obstetrics department of the district hospital in Brandýs nad Labem, in 1985 he completed his first-degree certification in the field of gynecology and obstetrics, five years after graduation he moved to the Gynecological and Obstetrics Clinic of the Institute for Further Education of Physicians and Pharmacists, which was then located in Bulovka, Prague, and in 1990 he received his second-degree certification in his field.
In 1992, he went abroad and worked as a gynecologist and obstetrician in one of the regional hospitals in Tunisia (Hopital Régional de Kasserine) until 1994. Not only did he gain an educated relationship with Islamic culture there (which is much needed today), but he still considers this African period to be the most significant contribution to his obstetric skills. After returning to his homeland, he worked in the non-state medical facility MEDA in Prague, where he devoted himself to reproductive medicine, obstetrics and in particular the treatment of infertility, especially assisted reproduction methods (IVF).
Since 2006, he has run his own outpatient medical facility, focused on reproductive medicine and ultrasound diagnostics. For a long time, he worked part-time as an obstetrician in the gynecological and obstetrics department of the hospital in Brandýs nad Labem, because he still had an intimate and sentimental relationship with this facility. Since this department was closed at the end of 2012, you could meet him for several years in the emergency services at the obstetrics and gynecology clinic of the Na Bulovce Hospital in Prague, and eventually he collaborated with the obstetrics and gynecology department of the Municipal Hospital in Neratovice.
Dr. Barták is the author of professional publications in his field and popular texts; you can find some in the TEXTS tab.
He was a member of the Czech Gynecological and Obstetrics Society (Assisted Reproduction Section) and a founding member of the Czech Society for Ultrasound in Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Czech Medical Society J. E. Purkyně. He spoke Russian and French quite fluently, English less well and reluctantly, German or Italian only brokenly and in cases of extreme emergency.
Alexandr Barták has been married since 1991 and has raised four children in his life, one of which was a set of twins**.
*) Augusto Pinochet would choose the same date exactly 15 years later for his bloody coup, apparently by chance.
**) It is also unlikely that Osama bin Laden's attack on the Nevyor twins on the doctor's 45th birthday was an allusion to his own twins.
